This Is How To Pander To People’s Laziness, Just Live Stream Funerals.

This Is How To Pander To People’s Laziness, Just Live Stream Funerals.

I have misgivings.

It's a statement by the president of the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral DirectorsPaul Allcock. When asked about the rise in people requesting the option of live streaming at funerals he replied,

“It’s wonderful for those relatives who live abroad, but there’s also a danger of pandering to people’s laziness and not attending personally and sharing your condolences, which is such an important part of the grieving process."

In this post, I challenge this opinion because I think it is ignoring the seismic change digital disruption is bringing on the funeral industry.

If This Was Your Last Tweet, What Would It Say?

If This Was Your Last Tweet, What Would It Say?

Would my last tweet be 140 characters plus a picture or just goodbye? The final words of the famous, infamous and just plain ordinary who tweet are being immortalised forever after their deaths through a project called, The Tweet Hereafter.

In this post we look at some of the final posts people tweeted most not knowing it would be their last through a new website The Tweet Hereafter. Is this just morbid voyeurism? You tell me.

How Will They Tell The Stories Of Your Life?

How Will They Tell The Stories Of Your Life?
“The thing about death is it reminds you the story we are telling has finality.” Donald Miller

How do you preserve the stories of the ones that you have loved? How will they tell the stories of your life one day? Online memorials are growing in popularity and use. These digital legacy platforms help people leave condolences and messages of sympathy. But what about telling the life stories of the person that has passed away? Memorates is a new online memorial website designed just to that.

In the post, I look at why we need to tell the stories of our life and why we need to intentionally create stories to tell! Oh, and I tell you why I traveled 7182 miles to cook a burger for my kids.

This Is How You Start A Conversation No One Wants To Talk About. Life. Death. Whatever.

This Is How You Start A Conversation No One Wants To Talk About. Life. Death. Whatever.

How do you start a conversation no one wants to talk about?

People who are willing to take risks inspire me. I am not talking about white knuckle adrenaline escapades. Though I quite enjoy those myself. Whatever. are doing during October in London. Louise Winter and end-of-life doula Anna Lyons  are engaging with people on life, death and just about everything in between.

Their findings explain how conversations online about death are moving from private and personal, to public and digital. What did they discover?

Do You Really Know Why Digital Legacy Planning Matters To You?

Do You Really Know Why Digital Legacy Planning Matters To You?

In the event of a house fire, what would you take with you? The standard answer used to be photograph albums. Photos remind us of our mortality. We can look at faded images of those we have loved in the past and they live again in our minds.

In the present, we can hold tightly on to rich memories of our life through vivid images in our minds that can never be taken away. Now, if you close your eyes, you could bring to remembrance one of those special times.

What would happen if you were denied access to those memories? In this post, I highlight the critical need for digital legacy planning by the tragic story of the loss of a son and a battle with Apple Computers.

What Will Be Tomorrow's Jobs In 'The End Of Life' Services World?

WHAT WAS THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION FOR YOU?

For most people who work in "The End Of Life" services, (by this I mean the funeral industry, hospice movement, palliative care or digital legacy worlds, etc.) it was not what they are doing today!

However, what about tomorrow? Does the advent of digital disruption today create new jobs in "The End Of Life" services world tomorrow? A fascinating report from The Future Laboratory and Microsoft shows technology is taking many jobs and providing new ones.

Why Does Legacy Giving Matter To The Funeral Industry?

Why Does Legacy Giving Matter To The Funeral Industry?

Why do people feel the need to give in memory of someone they have lost and why does legacy and "In Memorygiving matter to Funeral Directors?

Some people have their names on buildings, benches, and books.ome people choose to have a charity named in their will as a legacy gift.  However, hundreds of thousands of people every year have money given to charities in memory of them. Each week when I lead funerals, I see people giving money in memory of the loss of loved one. Often giving to a charity to support the illness which the person sadly suffered from. Alternatively, giving a donation to the favourite charity of the friend who passed away.

What prompts that emotion?
